Questions and answers

The most common questions about micro earpieces. Short answers, each with a link to the details.

Can you see a micro earpiece in the ear?

Not when it is inserted properly. The earpiece is narrower than the ear canal and sits just past its entrance, and the black or skin-coloured end blends into the shadow. There is no cable either. See: how to insert a micro earpiece.

How does a micro earpiece work without a cable?

By magnetic induction. The loop worn around the neck turns sound from the phone into a changing magnetic field, and the coil in the earpiece picks it up and turns it back into sound. Details in How a micro earpiece works.

Does a micro earpiece work with any phone?

With a Bluetooth loop, yes: with any smartphone, including iPhones and phones without a headphone socket. With a jack loop, with any device that has a 3.5 mm output, and with newer phones through an adapter. Comparison: Bluetooth or jack.

What is the range between the loop and the earpiece?

A few dozen centimetres. That is why the loop is worn around the neck: the ear has to be close to the wire. A phone connected to the loop via Bluetooth, on the other hand, can be several metres away.

How long does the battery in a micro earpiece last?

Usually several hours of continuous use on one SR416SW battery, depending on the model and volume. Always fit a fresh battery before an important use. More: micro earpiece batteries.

Can you talk through a micro earpiece?

Yes, if the loop has a microphone (or you speak into the phone). The earpiece itself only receives sound; the microphone is in the Bluetooth loop module or in the cable of the jack loop.

How do you take a micro earpiece out of the ear?

An induction earpiece: by its removal antenna, with your fingernails or rounded tweezers, after lifting the outer ear up and back. A magnetic earpiece: with the magnetic stick from the kit. If the earpiece gets stuck, do not poke around in your ear: see an ENT doctor. Step-by-step guide.

Is a micro earpiece safe for the ear?

With sensible use, yes. Do not use it if your ear is inflamed, take breaks during long use, never sleep with it and do not set the volume too high. Keep the earpiece clean.

Is a micro earpiece legal?

Buying and owning one requires no permits in Poland or in most other countries. It must not be used where the rules forbid communication devices, above all in exams, and in some countries exam fraud is a criminal offence. More: micro earpieces and the law and where exam cheating is a crime.

Why does the earpiece hiss or buzz?

Most often because of interference from nearby power supplies, transformers or a phone lying right next to the ear. Sometimes because of a weak battery. List of causes: micro earpiece hissing or not working.

What is the difference between an induction and a magnetic micro earpiece?

An induction earpiece has a battery and an amplifier, so it plays loud and clear. A magnetic one has no power supply; it is smaller and cheaper, but quieter and harder to remove. Comparison of types.

How much does a micro earpiece cost?

At hota.pl complete TESLA kits cost 449–549 PLN, the earpiece alone from 269 PLN and the loop alone from 239 PLN. Details: how much a micro earpiece costs.

Does a micro earpiece have Bluetooth?

The earpiece itself does not: it is too small for that. Bluetooth is built into the induction loop, which pairs with the phone like an ordinary headset. How to connect it to an iPhone or Android phone.

Can a micro earpiece work without a phone?

Yes, with a GSM module that takes its own SIM card and replaces the phone. It has its limitations, though. Comparison with a Bluetooth loop.

Where can I buy a micro earpiece?

Ideally from the manufacturer or a specialist shop that offers a warranty and support. We recommend hota.pl; see also our where to buy page.
